Food Diary

You know a lot of folks these days try to watch their weight. Whether they do a good job or not is something else. I go see a nutritionist once a month and have to write down my daily intake of food and drink as well as how much exercise I get. For me I needed that structure as probably do a lot of other folks.

I was just watching something on the news about a trial some universities were having which just entailed keeping a daily food diary with exercise and they lost anywhere from 9-13 lbs within the first 6 months. Some people where in shock at how much food they were actually eating or what kinds of foods they were eating with regards to the calorie content and substance.

I think if some have tried the diets and have failed this might be the best option because I really think it might be that structure that we need and accountability which is what these food diaries are. Especially for me because the nutritionist doesn’t just file them away, she actually reads them and we go over what my choices were. Eventually I will get to a point where I can manage it myself but for right now with the shit I have to deal with I’m glad I go every month and get guidance.

Pain in the Ass

So we have this physician and ever since he got there I get little notes on my desk like I’m 5 to do things. Now I can’t understand why he needs to do this #1, #2 I’m not 5, #3 This makes me think he thinks I’m an idiot because he’s telling me in writing what I need to do. Now, I know how to do my job, been doing it for almost 14 fricken years. I don’t need some punk ass doctor who just got out of his fellowship to tell me how to do it. There are so many other things that irk me too that I don’t even have the patience to put in here right now but needless to say it boils down to me becoming very short and yelling which is never good. I really want to stay until one of the physicians retires in a few years but now I’m not so sure because I don’t see how this can get resolved. Oh but I found out today that he wants me transferred so…. He’s also from another country where part of the mentality even though by law it doesn’t exist anymore is that women are subservient to men and I don’t play that game.

Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You

So I’m minding my own business getting ready to order some food at the restaurant when I turn around and WHAM I see a blast from the past who is now out of jail. Why was he in jail you ask? Well the lawyer finally got the charges dropped all the way down to a lewd act on a minor <16 years of age. He did about a year in jail and got out this past April. Okay, sure I guess he has to eat sometime but then I find out he is dating one of the waitresses at the restaurant. That ain’t good if she has no idea of his past. But it gets worse, she has a child. Think that’s bad? It gets even more worse, she is renting a house from his father who also was in jail for sexual conduct with not one minor but MINORS. Now the woman’s in denial. I mean this is all public knowledge and available online so its not like it is fake but she doesn’t want to believe any of it. I told them just keep me out of it because I don’t want any part of it. Some coworkers told her about it when they brought up the information on the internet. I can only imagine how this is going to go down when that woman gets home.

Growing Enormously

Sometimes nature just goes crazy as seen here. “Chili” is already 6 ft 7 in and still growing. He is going to be going for the World Record soon enough for being the biggest cow. This big fella was dropped off at the doorstep of Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard, Somerset and grew, grew, grew. Thankfully, he will never had to worry about being chopped up for food as well as his sister who didn’t get that growth spurt. I think I’d be in shock to see something that big. My mother had a Tennessee Walker horse and he was 16-17 hands? He was huge but I doubt as tall as Chili.

Weekend Disasters

You have to wonder if some sort of cosmic forces were out working over the weekend.

First I found out that one of my friends was in a severe car accident over the weekend at 4 AM swerving to miss an oppossum crossing the road when she flipped her SUV front over back. She got thrown from the vehicle and luckily there was someone following her home because this was one of those back roads as we are somewhat near the country and some of these roads aren’t traveled that often much less have lights on it. So he finds her and gets her to the hospital without calling 911. She ended up with a collapsed left lung, all her left ribs broken, and a bruised left shoulder and arm. Then on the right side she had to have a pin and rod put in her hip and leg because that was broke. She is now on the mend to a long recovery and we’ll all be there to help when needed.

Then some other friends were headed home on their bike when the passengers foot peg broke off right when they were going over the railroad tracks and she caught her foot in the tracks going over it and gouged out the back of her leg from the peg where it broke off and ended up with 30 stitches. She didn’t even realize she had cut herself until she saw a trail of blood from where she walking to go retrieve the peg. It was gnarly looking too.

Hopefully this will be a better week all round.

Cigarettes and Taxes

So we all know that cigarettes are bad for you and everybody else around you due to the second hand smoke and if you think that’s not a reality you’re full of shit because my cousin died of lung cancer and he didn’t even smoke. Then we have taxes which we all hate but what I think is hilarious here is the fact that we HAD the lowest tax price on a pack of cigarettes in the nation at 7 cents per pack for 30+ years and now they are going to hike it up 50 cents to 57 cents total. They are going to use that money which they estimate to be around $511 million each year of which they want to use $5 million towards smoking cessation and prevention program with the rest towards our Medicaid program to help around 117,000 people get insurance which makes sense to me considering we hardly get anything from the federal government at a 3:1 ratio.

Now if this isn’t an incentive for some folks who do not want to spend the ever more increasing amount of cigarettes then I do not know what is. Now how long this will take to go into effect though is a mystery because lawmaking and actually putting said laws into effect take forever. I remember when we finally were allowed to use real alcohol bottles instead of mini bottles a couple years ago. The law actually was passed a couple years prior but it didn’t get put into effect until then.

Gardasil

I can’t keep quiet about this any longer. It burns me up to no end watching these piece of shit commercials telling people who are gulliable enough that taking Gardasil will help prevent cervical cancer and some HPV types. It’s total bullshit. People are going to think now hey I got the shot I don’t need to get a pap smear every year because you know there are people out there that will be thinking this. They think this is going to be the cure all just like the flu shot is supposed to prevent you from getting the flu every season. Yes people believe that too. I know of one physician who gets the shot every year, gets sick immediately upon getting the shot and STILL gets sick about 2 more times. The shot doesn’t work people. You are getting pacified by something you want to believe in and that is wrong. You might as well put a placebo out there and say this will cure whatever the hell you have wait for the people to die.

I think what irks me the most about Gardasil is the fact that I heard that the school system is seriously considering requiring that as part of the childhood immunizations for all girls. That is total bullshit. It should be up to the parents to decide this and I know of one nurse who has already said that even if they require it there is no way in hell she is giving it to her daughter.

Yes it is the job of researchers and drug companies to come up with the next big antibiotic or prevention but you cannot tell me that is all just to pad the manufacturers pockets with more money in this case.

15 Year Olds have Legal Rights?

I’m sorry I just can’t get past this.

We had a 17 yo (but this apparently applies to anybody 15 and older) who went for an ultrasound and ended up finding out she was pregnant far enough along that it showed up on the ultrasound. Her parents did not know. Whether she knew is beyond me but she claims no. Now according to our hospital laws a 15 year old and older is to be told about this, an STD, etc by themselves without any legal guardians in the room during a visit. Now #1, it is illegal to see a child under the age of 18 without a parent in the room. #2, if we see patients who are pregnant we have to immediately refer them to high risk OB and adult nephrology due to the pregnancy. #3, to get these done, we would have to then give the referrals for said physicians to the PARENTS to make the appointments as the child is under 18 and it is illegal for her to make any appointments. So how do you circumvent the entire thing?

Then my next set of questions were, say you ask the parents to leave the room to tell the child this, and then ask the parents back in the room. They ask you what that was about but you can’t say. They ask the child, the child does not say. What then? I don’t remember what age you are legally able to get an abortion without your parents but I know it is not 15 or 16 and maybe not even 17. Legally the parents are responsible for the childs medical bills, hence they have the right to know what is wrong with their child. This goes against that.

Personally, I think it is a fucked up situation all around. I’ll get to the next fiasco later. Someone claiming to be the grandparent of a child when they have no blood relation what so ever.

I Need A New Outlet

You know it has all come so clear now that I need a new outlet for all my frustrations and stress since I have not been doing what I normally do which is bowl once a week. There is that satisfaction of slinging a 15-16 lb bowling ball down an alley making it curve while trying to hit every blasted pin down there in one shot.

What set me off this past weekend what my fucking router yet again. Someone please tell me why these pieces of shit don’t stay connected 24/7? I never have any issues even when the red light shows while on my tablet (I tested it out) using the wifi but it always affects my desktop which uses a cable which is then connected into the router. It just pisses me off and I snapped. I busted up the under the desk pull out keyboard and mouse holder. Nearly snapped it half when I slammed it in the floor after I pounded it off the rails. Actually, it’s not the first time either to tell you the truth. I have had to buy a few keyboards and mice from busting them up pounding them down.

I laugh now but damn I need to find an outlet to vent somehow because I surely can’t do it at either one of my jobs and you can only run it out so much. Course my knees would give out before that happened. Running on a treadmill is rough on your knees. It is times like these I wish I still had my cat around because she used to calm me down. New job would help but I can’t forgo the retirement from the one I have now. Vacation would do some good since the last one was probably close to 10 years ago but alas no money for that. Another one of my problems, hence the 2 jobs.

Why do the Rules Change?

Why is it the rules change almost every other day? My boss had put in for a 10% raise last year. Of course it still has not gone through and I called them about it today. Well for the institution, according to their bylaws or whatever you call them, you can get up to a 15% raise. Now according to this department they are only wanting to give out 5%. How the hell does that work? Every time we turn around they come up with new stupid rules that go against what the university has set up. So not only will I not get the 10% but I still haven’t gotten even the 5%. I guess I can thank my lucky stars that they haven’t “lost” the paperwork like that last jackass they had in that spot and that was after she said we didn’t deserve a raise when that wasn’t her call. It is like the money is coming out of their own paychecks or something. If she couldn’t get a raise that’s not our problem, her only job was to push the paperwork through for us to get ours.

Now I get to wait longer until I can talk to my boss about it all yet again because it is always a hassle. Every single time.
